Exploring LGBTQ+ Portrayals and Their Effects in Media
Biography
My name is Lex Andrzejewski and I am a senior at Wakefield School, The Plains.
I will be taking a gap year to spend time exploring the world around me and see what other places have to offer. Much of my childhood was spent creating stories and hearing the stories of others around me. I would spend hours analyzing and decoding characters in the movies and TV shows I watched, fascinated with the complexities and intricacies of what makes up a character. I decided to use those years of experience to investigate what makes up a good LGBTQ+ character and what does not. I loved being able to put what is simply a fun pastime for me to use in a formal manner. I truly believe that it is important to acknowledge what stories and the characters in them contribute to society and individual lives. I hope that in the years to come more stories told by LGBTQ+ people for LGBTQ+ people will have the spotlight.
